First multi-modal ticketing scheme in New Zealand
In 2009, Octopus was commissioned to supply the core central clearing house system for a new integrated ticketing system in Auckland, New Zealand.
The ticketing system, named "AT HOP", is New Zealand's first multi-modal ticket for public transport including trains, buses and ferries. As of March 2017, AT HOP is the third most used payment card in New Zealand (after credit cards).
Octopus supplies the core central clearing house system to Auckland Transport for processing daily transactions from transport operators, performing financial reconciliation and securing cardholder records. The system was successfully launched in 2012, and is currently processing more than 150 million transactions a year, with more than 2 million cards sold.
