OKManage your Octopus on Android
Your Octopus number is displayed on the main page of Octopus App under your Octopus card image, or can be found by following the steps below to check it through Google Wallet:
- Open Google Wallet;
- Select Octopus;
- Press “⋮” ;
- The card number is shown on the first line, and it can be copied for use.
Please take note of the number, in case you are required to provide it to our staff when making enquiries.
Note: If you cannot find details related to Octopus in Google Wallet, please go to the Octopus App. Aside from the “Find My Device” feature in Google Wallet, all Octopus functions can be accessed through the Octopus App.
A single Octopus cannot be stored across multiple devices at the same time. To use it on both Android devices, you can add separate Octopus to each device with a different Octopus account.
You can check the remaining value and transaction history of your Octopus on Android by following the steps below:
- Open the Octopus App;
- Tap Octopus card image;
- Select "Spending Record" and "Recent" for remaining value and transaction history enquiry.
The remaining value and transaction history of your Octopus on Android can be checked on the enquiry page of Google Wallet. Please follow the steps below:
- Open Google Wallet
- Select “Octopus”;
- Press " ⋮ " ;
- Check your transaction history at “Activity”.
Note: If you cannot find details related to Octopus in Google Wallet, please go to the Octopus App. Aside from the “Find My Device” feature in Google Wallet, all Octopus functions can be accessed through the Octopus App.
To backup and deactivate your Octopus on Android in Octopus App, please follow the steps below:
- Select the Octopus on Android you want to back up on the Octopus App home page;
- Select "Back up to Cloud" on the Octopus App “Manage Octopus” page;
- Read the message carefully and press "Confirm";
- In about a minute, your Octopus on Android will be deactivated from the Android device and backed up.
Note: Backup & restore process should be performed under circumstances with strong internet connection.
To transfer Octopus from an old to a new Android device, please follow the steps below:
- Backup and remove Octopus on the old Android device
- Select the Octopus on Android you want to back up on the Octopus App home page;
- Select "Back up to Cloud" on the Octopus App “Manage Octopus” page;
- Read the message carefully and press "Confirm";
- In about a minute, your Octopus on Android will be deleted from the Android device and backed up.
- Restore Octopus to the new Android device
- Log in the same Octopus account in Octopus App on the new Android device;
- Select the Octopus on Android card image on the main page of the Octopus App;
- Press "Restore this card" to restore the Octopus on Android from the cloud;
- Proceed with Octopus authentication for completion;
- In about a minute, your Octopus on Android will be restored to the new Android device;
- Check and set the NFC setting to “Android Operating System” or “Google Pay”.
Note: Backup & restore process should be performed under circumstances with strong internet connection.
No. As long as you are connected to the Internet when signing out from your Octopus account, your existing Octopus will be removed from your device and backed up automatically. You may re-add your Octopus to your device by signing-in with the same Octopus account in Octopus App.
If you sign out of Octopus App, then you can no longer use your Octopus on Android until you restore it.
No. As long as you are connected to the Internet and remain signed-in from your Octopus account, your Octopus on Android will still remain on the device. Even if you sign out of your Google account, you can still use your Octopus on Android as usual. However, you need to sign in your Google account again if you want to view your Octopus card details in Google Wallet.
Note: If you cannot find details related to Octopus in Google Wallet, please go to the Octopus App. Aside from the “Find My Device” feature in Google Wallet, all Octopus functions can be accessed through the Octopus App.
No. Octopus on Android will be deleted.
To ensure that you can use the same Octopus on Android again after reinstalling the app, back up your Octopus on Android before performing a factory reset on your device.
Yes, your Octopus on Android can be backed up and restored from anywhere except under the following circumstances, where it will be restricted:
- You have entered an MTR gate with the Octopus and have not yet exited
- You have applied to renew the MTR Student Travel Scheme, but it is not yet activated
- You have entered a car park with the Octopus and have not yet exited
- You have taken the 1st ride with the Octopus and would like to enjoy the interchange discount scheme*
- You have got on the light rail train, but not exited and would like to enjoy the light rail and bus interchange discount*
*You may back up your Octopus on Android, but you will not be able to enjoy the interchange discount if your Octopus on Android is backed up.
Note: Backup & restore process should be performed under circumstances with strong internet connection.
Your Octopus on Android will be deleted if you delete the Octopus App without backing up the Octopus on Android.
To ensure that you can use the same Octopus on Android again after reinstalling the app, back up your Octopus on Android before deleting the Octopus App.
If you have updated the Octopus App through Google Play Store, it will not affect your Octopus on Android.
However, if you have deleted the Octopus App without backing up your Octopus on Android and re-install the app, your Octopus on Android will be deleted.
Note: Please DO NOT install and update Octopus App through any unauthorised and unknown source.
