OKGet Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch (Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status)
Customers can get Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch (Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status) via Octopus App by:
- Transferring an existing physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status
Please ensure you have met the following conditions:- Holding an eligible physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status; and
- Aged between 13 to 25
Please note: If your MTR Student Travel Scheme has expired, you need to apply for renewal of your Student Status via MTR to continue to enjoy the MTR concessionary fares. If you have submitted an application for MTR Student Travel Scheme for your physical Personalised Octopus, please do not proceed with card transfer. You can activate or renew the Student Status with your physical Octopus card, and then transfer it to Mobile Octopus.
Any remaining balance and most existing services like Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) and access control will be seamlessly transferred from the physical Octopus to Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch. The physical Octopus will be disabled after the transfer. - Directly applying and adding a new Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status (applicable to new application of Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status)
If this is your first time applying for a Personalised Octopus with Student Status, you may choose Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status when you submit an electronic application via Octopus App or MTR website. After receiving the email of successful application, you may directly add Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch (Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status).
Please ensure you have met the following conditions:- Aged between 13 to 25
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student studying in a recognised institution in Hong Kong
Please note: For the first-time application of Personalised Octopus with Student Status, there is a stored value of HKD20 in the newly added Mobile Octopus, as a rebate from MTR Corporation Limited. If you are not applying Personalised Octopus with Student Status for the first time, please top up before using the Octopus.

After receiving the email of successful application, please follow the steps below to add Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status via Octopus App on compatible Apple devices:
- Open Octopus App on applicant’s mobile device;
- Tap “More” under “Quick Action" in main page;
- Tap "MTR Student Travel Scheme" under Customer Service section;
- Tap "New Octopus Activation / Add Mobile Octopus"
- Input personal information for verification;
- Read Terms and Conditions and tap "Next" to accept;
- New Mobile Octopus is added, click "Done".
Please note: New application of Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status is only applicable to Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch at the moment.

If you have previously added other Octopus card to Apple Wallet before, you may need to enable Express Transit mode for Octopus manually by: Open Wallet > select Octopus > click "…" > click "Card Details" > click "Express Travel Settings" > select Octopus*
* The first Octopus that you add to Wallet automatically becomes your Express Transit card. You can change your Express Transit card in Wallet at any time. You may need to open Apple Wallet and select Octopus to pay on mobile phones functioning as an Octopus card reader.

Only Hong Kong-issued Mastercard, UnionPay and Visa cards are supported for adding a new Octopus and for top up via Apple Wallet. If you would like to use non-Hong Kong issued Mastercard, UnionPay and Visa cards, please download and use Octopus App for Tourists.
Yes. When Octopus card is transferred to Mobile Octopus successfully, the Octopus card number will changed automatically.
Only Adult, Elder and Personalised Octopus (On-Loan version only) can be transferred to iPhone or Apple Watch.
However, there are some Personalised Octopus that cannot be transferred to iPhone or Apple Watch; these include but are not limited to the following:
- Personalised Octopus for customers aged 12 or below (including Personalised Octopus with Student Status)
- Personalised Octopus with Persons with Disabilities Status
- Staff Personalised Octopus
- Personalised Octopus with Lo Wu / Lok Ma Chau / Disneyland Monthly Pass
- JoyYou Card
Note: For these Octopus cards, you can transfer them to Apple Pay if the above mentioned monthly passes have expired. However, once transferred, you cannot apply for any of the above-mentioned services to the Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch. Instead, you must re-apply for these services through the service providers, using another Octopus card and pay the application fee(s).
The following services/offers can be transferred to your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch:
- The latest 9 spending records in the past 30 days
- Automatic Add Value Service
- Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme#
- Campus Management System
- Residential Building/Commercial Building/Campus Access Control System*
- Residential Building/Commercial Building/Campus Shuttle Services*
- KMB Monthly Pass
- Sun Ferry Monthly Ticket / Holiday Return Ticket
- Citybus Fare Concessions
- Concession Fares and Services of MTR, such as:
- Light Rail Personalised Octopus Frequent User Bonus Scheme
- MTR Monthly Pass
- MTR "10% Same-Day Second Trip Discount" (if applicable)
- MTR Fare Savers Discount
- MTR Points and collected MTR Free Ride under MTR Mobile Account / MTR Mobile**
- MTR Student Travel Scheme
# The record of public transport expenses and uncollected subsidy of the physical Octopus will be transferred to the new Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch. After successful transfer, you can collect the relevant subsidy with the new Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch from the 16th of the following month.
* Please use the function(s) with your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch immediately after the transfer, to ensure this function has transferred successfully. Please contact the relevant management office / service provider if the function does not work after transfer.
** It usually takes 3 days to update the Octopus link up record of MTR Mobile Account. Please contact "MTR Points" Service Hotline for details.
The following services/offers will not be transferred to your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch:
- Hourly / Monthly Parking Management
- MTR Park & Ride Scheme
If you have just replaced your Octopus under the Card Replacement Program and intend to transfer the new physical Octopus card to iPhone or Apple Watch, please perform the actions below before the transfer to ensure the following functions work normally after the transfer:
- Use the access control function with the new Octopus at least once;
- Top up or make a payment with the new Octopus at any merchant(s) with which you participate in the merchant’s loyalty program with your Octopus card.
No. The original physical Octopus card will be disabled after it is transferred to Apple Pay, and cannot be used again. We suggest you to cut it into pieces and dispose of the Octopus after a successful transfer.

In general, you can transfer your physical Octopus to iPhone or Apple Watch anywhere with good network coverage. However, please DO NOT proceed with card transfer for the time being if your physical Octopus has been used in the following situations.
- You have entered MTR gate with the Octopus
- You have applied to renew the MTR Student Travel Scheme, and not yet activated
- You have entered car park with the Octopus
- You have taken the 1st ride with the Octopus and would like to enjoy the interchange discount scheme
After receiving the approval email of the MTR Student Travel Scheme from MTR, you can activate or renew the Mobile Octopus via Octopus App. Please note that if your MTR Student Travel Scheme has expired, and the application has not yet activated or renewed, you will not be able to enjoy the MTR concessionary fares temporarily during the period.
Yes. In order to transfer an existing Octopus to another device, you must first be signed-in to both devices with the same Apple ID. To transfer between iPhones, you must remove the Octopus from original device before adding it to the second device. To transfer between an iPhone and a paired Apple Watch, you must use the Watch app. The transfer should be done in an environment with a strong network signal. You will not be able to attempt the transfer process if you have entered an MTR gate and have not yet exited.

Note: Please complete the above steps in Watch app > "Wallet & Apple Pay", if you would like to transfer an Octopus Card from an existing Apple Watch to a new Apple Watch.
Normally, Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch does not support transferring to non-Apple devices. If necessary, you may call the Octopus Customer Service Hotline on 2266 2222, and replace a physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status, which would takes 7 working days. After receiving the physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status, you can transfer it to your new mobile device. During the waiting period for the replacement, you will not be able to enjoy the MTR concessionary fares temporarily.
No. You can only transfer a physical Octopus card to Apple Pay.
The contents of our Octopus card will be stored on iCloud during the transfer process. In the event the card transfer is not successful, you will be able to complete the process by launching Apple Wallet or the Watch app.
No, there is no fee for this.
The refundable deposit is HK$50, as with the physical card.
You can add up to 12 Octopus, credit, debit and other travel cards to Wallet to be used on iPhone or Apple Watch.
As Student Octopus is a Personalised Octopus, the information is used to verify your identity before the transfer process begins.
