You can get a Huawei Pay Octopus by:
- Issuing a new Octopus via the Octopus App for Tourists
A new Huawei Pay Octopus can be added via the Octopus App for Tourists, with a minimum initial stored value of HK$100 and a deposit of HK$50, paid by a UnionPay credit or debit card (the issued region must be the same as your Huawei Account registered region) using Huawei Pay. There is no fee associated with adding a new Octopus. - Transferring an existing physical Octopus card via the Octopus App for Tourists or HUAWEI Wallet
Only an Anonymous On-Loan Adult Octopus can be transferred. Any remaining balance will be seamlessly transferred from the physical Octopus card to Huawei Pay Octopus. The physical Octopus card will be disabled after the transfer.
To transfer an Octopus to HUAWEI Wallet, please follow the steps below:
- Open the HUAWEI Wallet app;
- Select "Transportation";
- Select "+" at the top right hand corner;
- Select "Octopus"
- Select "Transfer an existing physical card"
- Read and accept "Terms and Conditions";
- Follow the instructions and tap the physical On-Loan Adult Octopus card at the NFC location of the handset;
- Input the required information and tap the Octopus card again;
- In about a minute, the Octopus card will be transferred to the HUAWEI Wallet. Please set Huawei Pay Octopus as "Default Card" in HUAWEI Wallet.
Please note that the original physical Octopus card will be disabled after it is transferred to Huawei Pay, and cannot be used again.
- Open Octopus App for Tourists, tap "Add Octopus" in card menu;
- Tap "Transfer Physical Octopus Card" and then tap "Next";
- Read and accept "Terms and Conditions" and tap "Next";
- Place the card at the NFC location on your Huawei Device to identify card type;
- Input the last 6 digits of the On-Loan Adult Octopus number of your card, including the digit inside the brackets;
- Place the card at the NFC location on your Huawei Device again to transfer deposit and remaining value after card transfer is completed. Please set Huawei Pay Octopus as "Default Card" in HUAWEI Wallet. The physical Octopus card will be disabled after the transfer.
- Tap "Add Octopus" in card menu;
- Tap "Adult" under "Add New Octopus", read and accept "Terms and Conditions" and then tap "Next";
- Input top up amount. Then tap "Next";
- Select credit / debit card to pay and confirm;
- Follow the steps to add a new Octopus on your Huawei Device
Any UnionPay credit or debit card (the issued region must be the same as your Huawei Account registered region) supported by Huawei Pay can be used.
The Octopus App for Tourists downloaded from Huawei AppGallery supports Renminbi (RMB), Macau Pataca (MOP) and Singapore Dollar (SGD).

In general, you can transfer your physical Octopus card to Huawei Device anywhere with good network coverage. However, you should not attempt to perform the transfer process if you have entered an MTR gate and have not yet exited. Please transfer after you have finished your MTR journey.
Yes you can. To transfer an existing Octopus to another device, you must first sign in to both devices with the same Huawei ID. To transfer between Huawei Devices, you must remove the Octopus from the original device before adding it to the second device. The transfer should be done in an environment with a strong network signal. You should not attempt to perform the transfer process if you have entered an MTR gate and have not yet exited.
No. Huawei Pay Octopus can only be transferred between compatible Huawei devices.
The contents of your Octopus will be backed up and stored on Huawei Cloud during the transfer process. If the transfer is not successful, you will still be able to complete the process by re-launching HUAWEI Wallet.

You can only add one Octopus to HUAWEI Wallet to be used on Huawei device.
Normally, any payment made for unsuccessful issuance of Huawei Pay Octopus will be automatically refunded, though it may take several days to process the refund.
