On the Mainland, as long as the card reader on the public transport has the "China T-Union" logo, you can use the Octopus – China T-Union Card for instant payment.

Single card for payment in Hong Kong and Mainland

Octopus – China –T-Union Card not only provides Hong Kong dollar (HKD) payment functionality, but it can also be used to pay for public transport in Renminbi (RMB) in 336 cities across Mainland China (via the automatic foreign exchange conversion from HKD to RMB). This means you don’t need to use RMB to top up your Octopus, and can simply top up in HKD to make payments in both Hong Kong and the Mainland.

When using the Octopus – China T-Union Card to pay for public transport in RMB in the Mainland, the stored value of the Octopus in HKD will be deducted according to the HKD:RMB exchange rate* set on the card. The relevant payment records will be listed in the Octopus App’s transaction history for easy checking at any time.

Reload with ease

No matter where you are, you can use the Octopus App to top up to your Octopus – China T-Union Card anytime, anywhere. Like other Octopus cards, you can also top up your Octopus – China T-Union Card with Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS)^# or cash.

^# Please note that AAVS is not available in Mainland China.

Update exchange rate

Every time you top up your Octopus – China T-Union Card, the exchange rate on the card will be automatically updated to the latest exchange rate on the day of the reload. This exchange rate has a validity period of 365 days. You can update the exchange rate when you:

• Top up or update the exchange rate through Octopus App
• Top up with cash at designated locations for reloading Octopus
• Top up with Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) at most locations in Hong Kong

Gentle reminders

It is recommended that the Octopus – China T-Union Card should be used in conjunction with Octopus App, making it even easier and more convenient to use.

• Even if you are in the Mainland China, you can top up anytime
• The Octopus – China T-Union Card exchange rate is valid for 365 days only, and once the exchange rate expires, it cannot be used temporarily. Therefore, please update the exchange rate by:
  • Topping up the Octopus – China T-Union Card
  • Updating the exchange rate via Octopus App
• Due to the differences in the regulations on stored value facilities for transportation cards in Hong Kong and the Mainland, the stored value limit is also different:
  • The maximum stored value of Octopus is HKD 3,000
  • The maximum stored value of the Mainland transportation card is RMB 1,000. Since the settings for displaying the maximum remaining value of card readers in various cities in the Mainland are also different, we recommend that you use the Octopus App to check the actual remaining value and spending records.
