Launch of Octopus O! ePay – The First Octopus Network-based Mobile Payment Service

In April, Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) launched the self-developed Octopus O! ePay, the first Octopus network-based mobile payment service to provide hassle free and secure Person-to-Person (P2P) payments and instant fund transfers with the Octopus cards, setting a new milestone for Octopus’ mobile payment service in Hong Kong to meet customers’ diverse payment needs.

The inaugural ceremony held in April was graced by nearly 200 guests, including guest-of-honour Professor K C Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, the media, Octopus Group’s Board of Directors, senior management from both OCL and its exclusive digital bank partner, Standard Chartered Bank. The event was prominently covered by all streams of media in Hong Kong.

Special Reader Prompt to Remind Customers for Card Replacement

A special reader prompt at Octopus readers of retail outlets and public transport by phases was launched in May to remind the First Generation On-loan Octopus cardholders to replace their cards at earliest convenience to enjoy Octopus’ latest services with continuous validity of their Octopus. The First Generation On-loan Octopus can be replaced completely free of charge at any of the Octopus Service Point located at designated MTR stations and Link’s shopping malls.

The First Generation On-loan Octopus refer to those Octopus with card numbers that have no bracket for the last digit as shown on the cards, see examples below.
