Octopus Serves Hong Kong in the New Digital Era as It Celebrates Two Decades of Success
(Hong Kong, 1 September 2017) The Octopus Group (Octopus) celebrated its twentieth anniversary today with an exclusive commemorative event graced by the Guest of Honour, Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and some 600 guests from the HKSAR Government, business community and major media organisations, together with Octopus' current and former Board members, Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers.
A new corporate identity featuring a more colourful and energetic look for Octopus' "infinity mark" was unveiled by Mrs Lam, together with Mr David Eldon, Non-Executive Chairman of Octopus Holdings Limited and Mr Sunny Cheung, the Group's Chief Executive Officer. The logo's new vibrant colours symbolise the inclusion and diversity of Octopus' innovative services, both offline and online, to serve Hong Kong in the new digital era.
Speaking at the Ceremony, Mr Eldon re-affirmed Octopus' vision of becoming the company most recognised for making Hong Kong a cashless society with a hybrid strategy focused on both offline and online digital payments that are simple, fast, secure, reliable and affordable, contributing to Hong Kong's development as a smart city.
Congratulating Octopus' twenty years of success, Mrs Lam said she looked forward to working with Octopus in developing more innovative and convenient payment and Smart City solutions as we embark on a new era of Hong Kong's high-tech development.
Leveraging the growing popularity and technological advancement of smartphones, as well as new opportunities brought by the Stored Value Facility regime, Octopus remains inspired to make everyday life easier by taking innovation and service levels to new heights. After launching a new Octopus App in June, as well as the cloud-based O! ePay service, Octopus now supports a number of payment technologies, including online, NFC, and mobile SIM, providing customers with more payment choices. This November, Octopus will be launching QR code payment, providing a full suite of offline, online and P2P payment services.
About the New Octopus Corporate Identity
The new Octopus logo retains the distinct infinity mark that symbolises creativity, possibilities, and the diversity of Octopus' applications in every facet of life.
The orange colour remains to reflect Octopus' 20-year history of key milestones, serving the whole of Hong Kong community from all walks of life. Two new colours, contemporary blue and green, have been added to highlight Octopus' new offline and online services.
In addition, the design breaks away from the rectangular shape to symbolise Octopus' breakthrough in new services for the digital mobile payment era.
