Octopus Join Hands with Merchants to Give Out Over HK$100 million in Rewards to Support the 2023 Consumption Voucher Scheme
Additional 100,000 MTR Shops eVoucher giveaways Customers to use same consumption voucher collection methods and enjoy even more rewards
(Hong Kong, 13 April 2023) – In continuation of its full support of the HKSAR Government’s Consumption Voucher Scheme (CVS) with the first-instalment consumption voucher disbursement on 16 April 2023, Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) announced the launch of over HK$100 million worth in merchant offers and Easy Earn rewards, and its partnering with MTR Shops to give away additional 100,000 eVoucher worth HK$1 million for use at participating MTR Shops, all via Octopus App. The steps for voucher collection remain unchanged from last year.
Don’t miss out OCL’s limited-time flash offer from 10am on two consecutive Tuesdays, 18 April and 25 April, giving away a total of 100,000 eVoucher via Octopus App on a first-come-first-served basis. These eVoucher can be used as cash at participating MTR Shops. In addition, OCL will offer coupons from a wide range of popular brands covering online shopping platforms, food and beverage, cosmetics, fashion, sporting goods, shopping malls, and many more, making it easy for customers to shop, dine and earn rewards simultaneously.
From 16 April, customers may use the Octopus cards they registered under the CVS last year to collect the first-instalment consumption vouchers, with the equivalent value as other Stored Value Facilities.
Customers may collect their first-instalment consumption vouchers and public transport fare subsidies at the same time through Octopus App, at participating retail outlets, Subsidy Collection Points designated under the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme (PTFSS), and Octopus Service Points. If the stored value on a customer’s Octopus card exceeds the limit of HK$3,000 when the customer collects the consumption voucher, he/she may collect the remaining amount in multiple times until the full amount of consumption vouchers and public transport fare subsidies has been collected. Octopus Service Ambassadors at over 70 MTR stations and light rail customer service centres (as listed in the Appendix) will assist people with enquries relating to consumption voucher collection.
OCL Sales and Marketing Director Rita Li said, “We are ready to join everyone in welcoming the first disbursement of consumption vouchers now that Hong Kong has returned to business as usual. In addition to offers from a wide variety of merchant categories and Easy Earn rewards, we will give away 100,000 MTR Shops eVoucher for use at participating shops to support people using their vouchers and accelerate the city’s economic recovery.”
Li continued, “We are now striving to uplift the current stored value limit of Octopus to receive government funds, including upgrading the software of each and every of the 170,000 Octopus readers used by retail merchants. More than 95% of these readers have completed software upgrade and testing. We have decided to wait until upgrading and testing of all the readers have been fully accomplished before launching the stored value limit uplift for receiving government funds, which by then customers will be able to enjoy an even more flexible and convenient digital payment experience.”
To ease operational pressures on small and medium merchants in the early stage of the city’s economic recovery, OCL will waive setup costs and rental fees for retail Octopus readers when merchants sign up directly with OCL during the 2023 CVS. Upon successful application for the Octopus App for Business, new small and medium merchants as well as taxi drivers will be able to obtain an Octopus Mobile POS for free. Merchants will also be able to enjoy a waiver of the Bank Account Fund Transfer Fee during the first six months, while taxi drivers will enjoy this waiver until further notice.
