Enhancing Mobile Octopus Service for Young Customers
Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status Now Available
(Hong Kong, 24 May 2023) Octopus Cards Limited (Octopus) announced Personalised Octopus with student status is now launched on mobile devices, including Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch, Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay and Huawei Pay Octopus. Eligible full-time students aged between 13 and 25 can start using the service immediately by transferring their physical cards to their mobile devices via the Octopus App. The Personalised Mobile Octopus with student status allows students to tap to commute easily, while enjoying student fare concession discounts and payment at over 170,000 Octopus acceptance points in the market.
Simple steps to transfer physical Student Octopus to Mobile Octopus via Octopus App
With a few simple steps in the Octopus App, eligible full-time students can transfer their physical Student Octopus to Mobile Octopus*, and top up their Personalised Mobile Octopus with student status (Student Mobile Octopus) anytime and anywhere. In addition to public transportation, it can be used for shopping and dining payments. The services in existing physical Octopus (including the deposit and any remaining value, MTR Student Travel Scheme, Campus Management System, Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme , KMB Monthly Pass, Sun Ferry Monthly Ticket / Holiday Return Ticket, New World First Bus / Citybus Fare Concessions, Consumption Voucher Scheme registration record, consumption vouchers and eligible spending record (if applicable), Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) and access control system) will all be transferred to Student Mobile Octopus.
Eligible full-time students can now submit their new application or renewal application for MTR Student Travel Scheme through MTR website or MTR Mobile**. Student Mobile Octopus can be activated in the Octopus App once the new application or renewal application is approved.

**If eligible full-time students are applying for fare concessions for their physical Student Octopus, they need not rush to transfer the card to Student Mobile Octopus. The transferral can be done after the fare concession is activated on the physical Student Octopus.
