Octopus e-Charity Fundraising Programme
Octopus e-Charity Fundraising Programme Concluded Successfully
Octopus Electronic Flag Selling Programme and Octopus for Fundraising (E-flag Extension Pilot Programme) were successfully concluded on 31 January 2021.
Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) and The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) jointly launched the Octopus Electronic Flag Selling Programme in December 2011, enabling charitable organisations to use portable Octopus readers to sell flags on designated flag days approved by the Social Welfare Department. The programme extended its scope in 2016 to cover fundraising events other than flag days, such as lottery ticket sales, donation counters and other street selling initiatives.
Since the programme was launched, more than 130 charitable organisations used portable Octopus readers for e-flag selling and fundraising activities, raising over HK$1.2 million of donation. The programme provides a more convenient donation channel for charitable organisations, eliminating the hassle of counting coins, and enhancing the effectiveness of fundraising. To enhance the existing electronic fundraising service, the Octopus Electronic Flag Selling Programme and Octopus for Fundraising (E-flag Extension Pilot Program) had stopped receiving applications from 1 December 2020, and the services were officially terminated on 31 January 2021. OCL is exploring other feasible e-payment solution with HKCSS, and will continue to provide services to charitable organisations.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all sectors of the society for their participation and support for the Octopus e-Charity Fundraising Programme over the years.
