Octopus Wallet
Without doubt, the growing convergence between e-commerce and mobile technology has changed the way we make payments. Our answer to a convenient, cash-free and card-free financial transaction is the Octopus Wallet, a payment platform integrated into the Octopus mobile application. The platform enables a range of functions such as topping up Octopus cards, managing transport expenses, peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, making online purchases and QR code-based payments. The Digital Octopus on Mobile – Smart Octopus
Our digital Octopus on mobile, or Smart Octopus appeals to a generation of customers who are seeking simplicity and sophistication, and is available across various platforms such as Samsung Pay, Apple Pay and Huawei Pay. By embedding a virtual Octopus in the phone, customers can enjoy quick and contactless payments at all Octopus acceptance points with just one tap. This product and service expansion again reflects our unwavering commitment to providing innovative and inclusive electronic-payment service.
Diversified Merchant Payment Options for Merchants
Apart from the traditional Octopus readers at retail stores and other merchants POS, we have expanded our options to Octopus Mobile POS and merchant’s mobile device to meet the increasing demand for integrated electronic payments. The all-in-one Octopus App for Business allows merchants to accept virtual and physical card payments. The widened range of options will empower our merchants to offer a seamless payment experience of their customer’s choice, giving them a much-needed edge in a competitive marketplace.

Contributing to the Society with Easier Financial Payments
Consumption Voucher Scheme
In 2021 - 2023, Octopus was selected as one of the electronic payment service providers to operate the HKSAR Government’s Consumption Voucher Scheme (CVS), a scheme to stimulate consumption growth and boost the local economy. Apart from having invested in enhancing our payment platforms for eligible persons to receive and spend the consumption vouchers efficiently and safely, Octopus also utilised its resources to aid people in need for effective voucher collection and spending.

Octopus #NeighbourDOOD Merchant Support Scheme
Octopus believes in small businesses as a driving force of the economy and we promote the cause with the #NeighbourDOOD Merchant Support Scheme. The programme assists small merchants in Hong Kong neighbourhoods in participating in the CVS, while encouraging Hong Kong people to think about the positive impact that their shopping can have on local communities.
Through the programme, we provided a subsidy to each selected small merchant to develop a digital marketing strategy and engage a professional digital marketing agency to help them set up social media business accounts that introduce their unique stories and signature products. It is our goal and hope to support small merchants in every way we can to overcome their current difficulties and bring neighbourhood communities together to create more business opportunities.

Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme and JoyYou Card
Octopus has been providing longstanding support to the Hong Kong SAR government in its effort to ease transport fare burden of commuters. To support the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme launched in 2019, and the subsequent JoyYou Card introduced for the elderly and people with disabilities to travel at subsidised fares, it has set up a registration function on the Octopus App mobile platform and Octopus website, enabling eligible persons to apply for the card at their fingertips.
