OKAbout Octopus on Android
Octopus on Android is an Octopus in Octopus App that can be added to Google Wallet on an Android device that uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to make contactless mobile payments for transport, shopping, and dining in Hong Kong – by just tapping your Android device at Octopus readers. It can also be used to make online payments.
Note: If you cannot find details related to Octopus in Google Wallet, please go to the Octopus App. Aside from the “Find My Device” feature in Google Wallet, all Octopus functions can be accessed through the Octopus App.
Please click here to see the list including but not limited to the mobile device models that support Octopus on Android. Octopus on Android is compatible only with Android 12 or above mobile devices sold by authorised retailers in Hong Kong.
To locate the NFC antenna, please refer to the manufacturers’ instructions at their website.
To use Octopus on Android, please update your mobile device to Android 12 or above and ensure your device has not been rooted before. The latest version of Octopus App, internet connection, and an NFC-enabled handset are all required.
You can use Octopus on Android just like a regular Octopus with the added benefit of being able to top up on the go using your credit or debit cards in Google Pay.
The stored value limit of Octopus on Android is HK$3,000.
Your Octopus on Android will become an Inactive Mobile Octopus and an Inactive Mobile Octopus Administrative Fee will be deducted from the remaining value and deposit after 3 years of inactivity, and annually thereafter if it remains to be unused for any transaction. Octopus on Android does NOT support Wear OS or any other Android smart watches at this moment.
