You can get an Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch by:

1. Issuing a new Octopus via the Octopus App for Tourists
   A new Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch can be added via the Octopus App for Tourists, with a minimum initial stored value of HK$100 and a deposit of HK$50, paid by a non-Hong Kong issued Mastercard, UnionPay or Visa credit / debit card in Apple Pay, a non-Hong Kong issued Mastercard linked to the Octopus App for Tourists, or e-CNY App. There is no fee associated with adding a new Octopus.
2. Issuing a new Octopus via Apple Wallet
   A new Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch can be added via Apple Wallet, with a minimum initial stored value of HK$100 and a deposit of HK$50, paid by a Mainland China-issued UnionPay credit or debit card only. There is no fee associated with adding a new Octopus.
3. Transferring an existing physical Octopus card via the Octopus App for Tourists or Apple Wallet
   Only Anonymous On-Loan Adult and Elder physical Octopus can be transferred. Any remaining balance will be seamlessly transferred from the physical Octopus to Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch. The physical Octopus will be disabled after the transfer.

1. Open Wallet, tap "+"
2. Tap "Continue"
3. Tap "Octopus"
4. Tap "Transfer Existing Card"
5. Input the last 5 digits of the Octopus number on your card, including the digit within brackets
6. Tap "Agree" after reading T&C
7. Place your iPhone on top of the Octopus, to transfer the card information
8. Follow the steps to transfer your physical Octopus to your iPhone or Apple Watch

1. To use the Octopus App for Tourists, please sign in with your Apple ID
2. Tap "+" in card menu
3. Tap "Transfer Octopus Card", confirm the T&C and then tap "Next"
4. Tap "Continue"
5. Tap "Octopus"
6. Tap "Transfer Existing Card"
7. Input the last 5 digits of the Octopus number on your card, including the digit within brackets
8. Tap "Agree" after reading the T&C
9. Place the card by the top of your iPhone, to transfer the card information
10. Follow the steps to transfer your physical Octopus to your iPhone or Apple Watch

6. Select the currency
7. Tap "Pay with Apple Pay"
8. Follow the steps to add a new Octopus on your iPhone or Apple Watch

1. To use the Octopus App for Tourists, please sign in with your Apple ID
2. Tap "+" in card menu
3. Tap "Adult" under "Add New Octopus", confirm the T&C and then tap "Next"
4. Input top up amount and select "Mastercard (Link Card)"
5. Select currency, then tap "Pay with Mastercard"
6. Follow the steps to link a non-Hong Kong-issued Mastercard for payment
7. Confirm to pay
8. Follow the steps to add a new Octopus on your iPhone or Apple Watch

1. To use the Octopus App for Tourists, please sign in with your Apple ID

3. Tap "Adult" under "Add New Octopus", confirm the T&C and then tap "Next"
4. Input top up amount and select "e-CNY App" as the payment method, the payment currency will change to “CNY” automatically
5. Confirm to pay
6. Follow the steps to add a new Octopus on your iPhone or Apple Watch

3. Tap "Travel Card", select "Octopus"
4. Tap "Continue"
5. Input top up amount and tap "Add".
6. Tap "Agree" after reading T&C
7. Select a Mainland China-issued UnionPay credit or debit card and confirm payment
8. Follow the steps to add a new Octopus on your iPhone or Apple Watch

If you would like to add or top up an Octopus with a non-Hong Kong issued Mastercard, UnionPay or Visa credit / debit cards, you must do it via the Octopus App for Tourists. Or, you can also add or top up an Octopus with a Mainland China-issued UnionPay credit or debit card via Apple Wallet.

The Octopus App for Tourists supports currencies of countries or regions supporting Apple Pay and e-CNY.

In general, you can transfer your physical Octopus to iPhone or Apple Watch anywhere with good internet network coverage. However, you will not be able to attempt the transfer process if you have entered an MTR gate and have not yet exited. Please transfer after you have finished your MTR journey.

Yes. However, in order to transfer an existing Octopus to another device, you must first sign in to both devices with the same Apple ID. To transfer between iPhones, you must remove the Octopus from the original device before adding it to the second device. To transfer between an iPhone and a paired Apple Watch, you must use the Watch app. The transfer should be done in an environment with a strong network signal. You will not be able to attempt the transfer process if you have entered an MTR gate and have not yet exited.

No. Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch can only be transferred between compatible Apple devices.

The contents of your Octopus will be stored on iCloud during the transfer process. If the transfer is not successful, you will still be able to complete the process by launching Apple Wallet or the Watch app.

The deposit is HK$50, as with the physical Octopus.

You can add up to 12 Octopus, credit, debit and other travel cards to Wallet, for use on an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Normally, any payment made for unsuccessful issuance of Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch will be automatically refunded to the credit or debit card(s) or e-CNY wallet you used to top up your Octopus, though it may take several days for this to be processed.
