You can use the Octopus UnionPay Card at most of merchants accepting UnionPay Card payment in Hong Kong and worldwide. Simply present the QR code to the merchant during checkout, or scan the QR code provided by the merchant, and you will be notified for each transaction. You can also make online payments with your Octopus UnionPay Card. Please remember to turn on the notification setting of your mobile device and the Octopus App to receive the push notification.

Present your QR code to the merchant:

Under "Wallet" main page, tap the " Octopus UnionPay Card ".

Step 2

You will see your QR code on the screen.

Step 3

Show your QR code to the merchant, then you can see the receipt after your payment is completed.

Scan the QR code provided by the merchant:

Input and confirm the transaction amount.

Make payments to online merchants:

Step 1

Under "Wallet" main page, tap the " Octopus UnionPay Card ".

Step 2

Enable your Octopus Unionpay Card, then you can tap the card number to see the card details on the screen. When shopping online, simply follow the instructions and enter your card details to make payment.

Add Octopus UnionPay Card to UnionPay App:
Please click here and follow the instructions to enter your Octopus UnionPay Card details and register your card in UnionPay App. You can find your card details following these steps:

Under "Wallet" main page, tap the " Octopus UnionPay Card ".

Step 2

Enable your Octopus UnionPay Card, then you can tap the card number to see the card details on the screen.

Step 3

The card details will be shown on the screen.

Payments made with your Octopus UnionPay Card will be deducted from your Octopus Wallet, which can be conveniently topped up from bank account via Faster Payment System (FPS), by cash at all 7-Eleven stores, or from an Octopus card via a compatible NFC mobile device. To top up your Octopus Wallet, please refer to Adding Value to your Octopus Wallet.

You don't need to top up your Octopus UnionPay Card separately. Octopus UnionPay Card uses the fund in your Octopus Wallet for purchase. The maximum amount that you can top up to your Octopus Wallet is based on your Octopus Wallet level.

The transaction limit of Octopus UnionPay Card is subject to the daily transaction limit of Octopus Wallet. In addition, there is an annual spending limit for the Octopus UnionPay Card.

You can also set the maximum amount per transaction* as an additional control. Simply set your preferred amount in the Octopus App.

*Please note that such per transaction limit is also restricted by other limits such as the daily transaction limit of your Octopus Wallet and the annual spending limit of your Octopus UnionPay Card.

A receipt will be prompted after you make the payment successfully. You will then receive a push notification for each transaction made with your Octopus UnionPay Card via the Octopus App. You can also check the transaction details in the Wallet "Activities" and "Wallet".

The Octopus UnionPay Card can be used for QR code and online payment but certain transactions such as installment payments, pre-authorization transactions and/or purchases that require subsequent presentation of a physical card are not applicable.

Following are the possible reasons:

1. Your Octopus Wallet doesn't have sufficient balance;
2. Your Octopus UnionPay Card was "disabled" (You can enable it with your Octopus App);
3. The transaction amount exceeds a certain limit in relation to the use of your Octopus UnionPay Card;
4. Some merchants do not accept prepaid cards;
5. Transaction involves pre-authorization.

Your transaction will be declined if there is insufficient fund in your Octopus Wallet. You can see your Wallet balance in your Octopus App. Simply top up your Wallet before you make payment with your Octopus UnionPay Card.

Yes, Octopus UnionPay Card supports UnionPay Transit QR code to pay for the fares. You can use UnionPay Transit QR Code by adding your Octopus UnionPay Card to UnionPay App.
