OKLinking your Octopus Card to Octopus Wallet
To comply with regulatory requirements, from 21 July 2022 onwards, linking Octopus Card to Octopus Wallet is required for the following transactions using Octopus Card:
- Topping up your Octopus Wallet;
- Payments with designated cross border merchants using the Octopus Online Payment Service
The service is available for Wallet Plus and Pro (Verified). The Octopus Card Holder identity must be the same as your Octopus Wallet one.
Currently only Personalised Octopus Card, Octopus Card with Automated Add Value Service (AAVS) and Bank Co-Brand Octopus Card (with number of at least 9 digits, i.e. minimum 8 digits plus a single digit inside brackets, e.g. 12345678[9]) under your name can be linked to your Octopus Wallet.
However, Mobile Octopus cannot be linked to Wallet; these include the following:
- Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch (including Bank Co-Brand Octopus Card on Mobile)
- Huawei Pay Octopus
- Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay
In the Octopus App, select "More" > "Settings" > "Link Octopus Card" to link eligible cards in your Octopus App to your Wallet.
Alternatively in the main menu under the "Octopus Card" tab, you can tap an Octopus Card > "Settings" > "Link Octopus Card" to link to your Wallet.
You can link up to 2 Octopus Cards to your Wallet on your Octopus App at a time, and up to 4 cards per calendar year. It will only count once if you delink and link the same Octopus Card again within the calendar year.
Please note that this function only applies to an Octopus Card with number of at least 9 digits (minimum eight digits plus 1 bracketed digit). Octopus Cards cannot be linked with other Wallets once linked.
In the Octopus App under the "Octopus Card" tab, tap an Octopus Card > "Settings" > "Link Octopus Card" to check the linking status, e.g. whether it is linked, in your Wallet or other Octopus Wallet.
Alternatively for Octopus Cards linked under your Wallet, you can select in the main menu "More" > "Settings" > "Link Octopus Card" to link eligible cards in your Octopus App to your Wallet.
Please note that Octopus Cards cannot be linked to other Wallets once linked.
Your linked card setting can be changed/cancelled in the Octopus App by clicking the "Unlink" button in the Octopus App "More" > "Settings" > "Link Octopus Card" > Octopus Card page. Once the card is unlinked, it can only be linked again to Octopus Wallet under your name.
Octopus Cards cannot be linked to other Wallets once linked. However, if the Octopus Card is currently linked to an Octopus Wallet, you can have this Octopus Card registered in your Octopus App for topping up your Wallet.
Yes, whether or not the Octopus Card is linked to your Wallet, you can still manage your card and/or perform card transactions including but not limited to:
- Top up your Octopus Cards anytime, anywhere, with money in your Octopus Wallet, or from your bank account through the Faster Payment System (FPS).
- See how much you have left on your cards, check the latest spending records, and past 3-month spending records with a summary by categories.

Yes, whether or not the Octopus Card is linked to your Wallet, you can still use the card to collect Government's public transport fare subsidy and consumption vouchers via Octopus App.
