Personalised Octopus
A Personalised Octopus is an Octopus with the cardholder's name and/or photo printed on the back of the card. If you want to have your own Personalised Octopus and enjoy the Lost Octopus Reporting Service for reporting a lost card, you can easily apply for a Personalised Octopus through the following steps.
Simple steps to apply for a Personalised Octopus
Online application through Octopus App
You can easily apply for a Personalised Octopus and instantly pay the application fee through the Octopus App.

Step 1: Download the Octopus App
You may search for and download the Octopus App from Google Play, App Store or AppGallery.
Step 2: Prepare the following documents
- For Hong Kong residents: Hong Kong Identity Card or Hong Kong Birth Certificate (for children under 11 years old) are required
- For non-Hong Kong residents: China Identity Card / Macau Identity card / Passport / Hong Kong SAR Re-entry Permit can be provided
Note: Other documents such as One-way Permit / Exit-entry Permits will not be accepted for applications.
If you would like to have your photo printed on the Personalised Octopus, please prepare a colour passport photo that meets the following requirements:
- Headshot colour passport photo
- White or plain light colour background
- Taken within past 6 months
- Image size at least 600px (W) x 800px (H)
Note:
Self-portrait photo taken with mobile phone is not recommended, as the quality of the photo may be varied.
Step 3: Fill in and submit the electronic application through the Octopus App
On the Octopus App's home page, tap “More”, then select “Personalised Octopus”, tap 'New Personalised Octopus Application”, and follow the steps to apply, pay the application fee, and submit to complete the application.
Obtain the application form and submit the form in person
Step 1: Obtain an application form by either of the following methods
- Download the application form here
- Go to any MTR and Light Rail Customer Service Centres (except Racecourse) to obtain the application form
Step 2: Submit the application form at a designated MTR Customer Service Centre
Complete and return the application form, and pay the application fee in person at one of the following Customer Service Centre:
- MTR Customer Service Centres: Chai Wan, Choi Hung, Diamond Hill, Hung Hom, Kwai Hing, Lai Chi Kok, Lam Tin, Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, Ocean Park, Quarry Bay (Taikoo Place), Sai Wan Ho, Kennedy Town, Sha Tin, Sheung Shui, Tai Wo Hau, Tung Chung and Yau Tong stations
- Light Rail Customer Service Centres: Ferry Pier Terminus, Leung King, Tin Yat, Yuen Long
Note:
- You can apply for a JoyYou Card; a Personalised Octopus with student status; or an ordinary Personalised Octopus through the Octopus App
- Please use your Personalised Octopus regularly. If there is no added value nor any payment transactions for three years, it will become an Inactive Octopus, and to reactivate it you will have to pay the Inactive Octopus Administrative Fee
- If you have a Personalised Octopus with student status, you can transfer your physical Octopus to your iPhone or Apple Watch or Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay. Click here to learn more
How to enquire about your application status and activate the Personalised Octopus
In addition to applying for a Personalised Octopus through the Octopus App, you can also check the status of your Personalised Octopus* application through the Octopus App. Once you receive the card, you can also activate the Personalised Octopus* through the Octopus App, thus enjoying a one-stop convenient service.

Lost Octopus Reporting Service
If you lose your Personalised Octopus, our Lost Octopus Reporting Service allows you to apply for a refund of its remaining value (if any).
