Note: the exchange rate on Tourist Octopus – China T-Union Card will be renewed when you add value and has a validity period. If the exchange rate expires, the card cannot be used in the Mainland and Macau until it is updated. You are suggested to add value to the card before your trip to the Mainland or Macau, in order to renew the exchange rate and ensure the card has sufficient remaining value.

Nationally accepted
In addition to paying for transport and retail purchases in Hong Kong, you can use the Tourist Octopus – China T-Union Card for transit payment in the Mainland and Macau as long as the card reader on the public transport has the “China T-Union” logo.
Single card for payment in Hong Kong and Mainland
Tourist Octopus – China –T-Union Card not only provides Hong Kong dollar (HKD) payment functionality in multiple Hong Kong acceptance points, but it can also be used to pay for public transport in Renminbi (RMB) in 336 cities across Mainland China and Macau (via the automatic foreign exchange conversion from HKD to RMB). This means you don’t need to use RMB to top up your Octopus, and can simply top up in HKD to make payments in Hong Kong, the Mainland and Macau.
When using the Tourist Octopus – China T-Union Card to pay for public transport in RMB in the Mainland and Macau, the stored value of the Octopus in HKD will be deducted according to the HKD:RMB exchange rate* set on the card. The relevant payment records will be listed in the Octopus App’s transaction history for easy checking at any time.

Update exchange rate
Every time you top up your Tourist Octopus – China T-Union Card, the exchange rate on the card will be automatically updated to the latest exchange rate on the day of the reload. This exchange rate has a validity period of 365 days. You can update the exchange rate when you:
- Top up with cash at designated locations for reloading Octopus
- Update the exchange rate through Octopus App
