If you would like to apply for a refund of the deposit and remaining value on your Octopus, please make the request directly through Octopus App for Tourists. The amount will be refunded to the credit / debit card, or e-CNY App you used to top up your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch.

For Physical Octopus Cards

Before departing Hong Kong, visit any MTR Customer Service Centre to apply for a refund of the remaining value on your physical Octopus Cards.

If the remaining value is less than HK$500, an immediate refund can be collected at the MTR Customer Service Centre.
If the remaining value is HK$500 or more, the Octopus will be returned to Octopus Cards Limited for processing, and we will notify you of the refund arrangements within nine working days.

Tourist Octopus (Sold version)
Keep it as a souvenir of your trip. The cost of the Octopus is non-refundable. Once your remaining value is refunded, the Octopus can no longer be used.

On-Loan Octopus
A Handling Fee of HK$11 or 1% of any remaining value, whichever is higher, for On-Loan Octopus returned if it meets any one or more of the following criteria: if its remaining value exceeds HK$1,000; and/or if it is returned within 90 days from the date of issue, and/or if such Octopus has only been used for five (5) payment transactions or less from the date of issue (excluding any bill payment transaction or donation transaction) If your Octopus has been damaged or altered, a HK$30 fee will apply. On-Loan Octopus

A Handling Fee of HK$11 or 1% of any remaining value, whichever is higher, for On-Loan Octopus returned if it meets any one or more of the following criteria:
1. if its remaining value exceeds HK$1,000; and/or
2. if it is returned within 90 days from the date of issue, and/or
3. if such Octopus has only been used for five (5) payment transactions or less from the date of issue (excluding any bill payment transaction or donation transaction)
