Care for Our Community
Octopus and the Hong Kong community
We have a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. Through a wide spectrum of initiatives, from programmes for underprivileged children and rehabilitation transport to innovative e-charity initiatives, charity fundraisers and more, Octopus supports the community in a wide variety of ways.
Octopus STEM x SPORTS Scheme
Co-organised by OCL and St. James' Settlement in 2007, the “Octopus Kids' Nurturing (OKN) Programme” subsidises grassroots primary students to participate in extra-curricular classes, thus fostering their whole-person development through music, physical education, arts and assisting social services, etc.
In 2019, OKN entered a new phase as “Octopus Talent Nurturing Programme”, with an expanded focus to include STEM education and sustainability elements to promote building a smart city. The Programme also expanded its scope of beneficiaries to include both primary and secondary students.
Since 2007, more than 4,300 grassroots students from 190 schools have been benefited from the Programme.
Accorded with the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong and to encourage participation in physical activities among primary and secondary students, the Programme is elevated to a new level as “Octopus STEM x SPORTS Scheme” in 2022. The Scheme offers participating students sports activities, training courses, workshops, fun day camps, etc., which combine STEM and sports, enabling them to grow up healthily while developing skills and personal characteristics necessary for the development of a digital society.
Food Assistance Programme
To support a socially inclusive society and revolutionise food assistance ecosystem with digitalisaion, Octopus joins hand with St. James Settlement to launch the Charity-to-Give Food Assistance Programme in 2023. By introducing the innovative electronic payment solutions, the programme helps to optimise the traditional food relief model and makes beneficiaries’ experience more convenient while protecting their dignity, improving both service quality and efficiency. The program also allows social welfare organizations to allocate service resources more accurately to those in real need, creating a win-win situation for beneficiaries and social welfare organizations.
